Two

Stomper,

Some days I look at you and wonder, "Where did my baby go? I am sure he was just here." other days when I hold you tightly and you snuggle in I know that my baby never left. It has been said time and time again that children will always be their mothers "babies", but I am certain it is true.

Even though I am sad to have lost my baby I am glad that we are past the time where all you seemed to do was cry, because now you are jumping, running, smiling, bundle of happiness. Everyone who meets you comments on how cheerful you are.As your mother I know that your cheerfulness isn't always easy to see. I see you angry, temperamental, naughty, and defiant; but your disposition remains constant--you have joy.

We have some rough times ahead of us as you make your will known to us. People call it the "terrible twos", but you are not terrible, you are learning. You are learning to listen and obey. You are learning there are consequences to your actions. You are learning the right way to do things like: wash your hands, use a spoon, look at a book, and be gentle to our pets all this learning takes time and patience.

This coming year as we are patient with each other, as we learn to better communicate with each other, I will look for your smile. That smile that warms my heart and helps me to see the sweet sweet boy you are.

Happy Birthday Little Man!

Birthday Buddies

Owen has a little friend who was also born in September. Maybe you remember him from last year? This year they are two and what a blast they are when they are together!

Mimi had both boys over at her house this week-end. They were like a set of twins. Whatever one was doing, the other had to do. They even wrestled and tackled each other!

We're hoping they will be buddies even when they get a little bigger.

Big Boy Room

The past week or so my Mother and I have been working hard on a room for a special boy. Jason and I picked out the colors together; a nice deep brown and a cream for the trim. I nicknamed the room "Melted Ice Cream" because that is what the colors look like in the cans. Some of the family members were worried about the paint choice, but it is perfect. The brown will hide dirt and because the room is so bright it doesn't look like a cave.

We primed, painted the ceiling, painted the trim, painted the walls, and stenciled the floor. There are still a few things missing: some trim work, a rod for the closet, a rug of some short, and cheery curtains; but I declared it done enough to move him in.

On the floor I made a track. I took one of Stompers John Deere trucks and painted the tires. Then I ran it around the room a few times. Next summer Jason hopes to refinish the floor. For the meantime he has a muddy track all around his room.

For some art I put Tonka Truck decals along the baseboard and on the wall above his bed. Every time I get him up from nap or bed he counts the trucks. I am planning on putting up photographs of his favorite people on his walls, I think he'd enjoy that.

I put my favorite rocking chair in there so I could knit while he plays or so we can read together. Right now he is obessed with the Melissa & Doug ball ramp thing pictured above. When he is not banging on it or sitting on it he's working on his tool bench. Apparently he need to hack it apart..?...Jason made him the hatchet over the winter. Doesn't every two year old need their own wooden hatchet?

If you come over and can't find us, just follow the sounds of a little boy playing in his very own big boy room!

Bowling

Went on a double date with Jason's sister and her hubby.
After burgers and chicken at Red Robin we went bowling.
None of us bowl "correctly" but we sure had a lot of fun!

Knit, Frog, Repeat

I am having issues with my stripes.

Mainly because I am a perfectionist and I didn't want them jagged so I did a little trick so that they weren't. However, carrying the colors was an issue and it looks plain ugly on the inside...and...well...The Perfectionist ripped it out to the thumb. I reknit it and I got to the top of the mitten and worked the Kitchener Stitch to finish the top. I surveyed my work and tried force The Perfectionist to like it, but she wrenched it from my hands and ripped it out...again. For the third time I knit it and decided that no matter what The Perfectionist said I wasn't ripping it again. I wouldn't give it away to someone, but I WOULD finish it.

Friday night I fnished the top with the Kitchener Stitch, declared it "good enough" ignored The Perfectionist as she climbed to the surface, turned it inside out and proceeded to weave in ends.

Done.

Saturday I opened up the middle to make it a flip top and it doesn't look awful, it's not great, I don't like it, but it works. I will probably declare this a tester and not knit a second one. As soon as the hubs gets paid I will be purchasing black yarn and starting all over again.

I must add, however, that my issues are not the yarn, the pattern, or the knitter; it is all the stripes fault.

I am coming along on my list. Since I will be unable to restart the mittens/gloves I will get to numbers 1 & 2 this week and maybe even number 6 which really, really needs to be started.

To Do:

  1. Finish sweater by adding buttons
  2. Finish hat by weaving in ends
  3. Stop knitting "scarf/cowl" mystery
  4. Cast on for gloves
  5. Finish gloves
  6. Cast on Flannel Hat for Stompers Christmas

Feb Baby Hat
Of course, this is also the week that I want to get invites to Stompers 2nd Birthday in the mail so we will see what actually happens. Oh, my library has MP3 Audio Books so I hope to test it out while knitting this week, so maybe I will get some knitting done after all!

The patterns for the mitten are HERE and HERE (I married them together) and the hat is February Baby Hat.
